CSE Education Series: What the Body Is Saying: Helping Children Notice and Communicate What's Inside
Description
On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the Lower Merion School District Committee for Special Education (CSE) will host an educational presentation on Zoom titled, "Helping Children Notice and Communicate What's Inside."Every behavior has a body behind it: a body that may be hungry, tired, in pain, overwhelmed by noise, comfortably warm, excited or enjoying movement. Many children receiving special education services notice these signals only after they become intense, may not understand what they mean, or may not have an easy way to share them.Speech-language pathologist Kim Singleton will share practical ways families can help children notice, understand and communicate what is happening inside their bodies. She will explore how to treat behavior and movement as information, introduce body-based language without turning it into a quiz, and support communication through speech, gesture, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) or movement. The event, open to LMSD parents, guardians and staff, will include samples and time for questions.Join the Zoom here.
